On Tuesday and Wednesday of next week I'll be in New York City covering the World Innovation Forum, courtesy of HSM. Last year George Levy contacted me out of the blue and asked if I'd like free admittance to the event in exchange for blog coverage. Apparently he searched for bloggers who had an interest in innovation, came across the Information Playground, and sent me an invite. As a result I've gotten to know quite a few excellent writers who cover innovation for a living, and many of us will be reuniting in the Big Apple once again. The current list of bloggers covering the conference next week can be found here.
My main task will be to provide coverage of the conference, but just like last year I'm also looking for innovation trends and themes to bring back to my company (EMC). One of the most memorable takeaways from last year's conference was Vijay Govindarajan's 3-Box strategy. His strategy was a corporate one; I found that it applied at an individual innovator level and had some success instilling that theme within my own business unit.
Perhaps the best pre-conference coverage of WIF10 can be found by Wikibon employee Stu Miniman. Last year's World Innovation Forum received heavy social media coverage. This year's forum will feature speakers that are social media heavyweights, including Twitter founder Biz Stone and power-blogger Seth Godin.
Another innovation trend that I hope to hear about is reverse innovation. Although VG is not speaking at the conference this year (he will be at WBF10), I'm looking forward to hearing any theories that relate to innovation in developing countries that results in product exports to wealthier nations.
My RSS feed will be busy next week! Please consider subscribing to the blog and leaving me comments if there is an angle that you would like to hear about.
