I'm off to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for a 12-day backpacking trip with my son and his Boy Scout troop. Until my return in mid-August.....

Steve,
Enjoy Philmont. It's a great experience, and I'm really glad to hear that it's still going strong after having been there 30+ years ago with my scouting family. I was a Muchacha back then, and climbing The Tooth was our biggest challenge!

Many years ago I was a camper (err backpacker) at Philmont myself. I did it 2 years in a row. Took a year off then the next year I worked there. For scouts into backpacking and living outdoors, Philmont is a complete blast. Working there exposed me to more into the arena of working in the "outdoors" workforce. I got to meet several of the local (relative) park rangers and understand more about their jobs.
I hope you have fun! Drink lots of water even when you are not thirsty. You do not want to get dehydrated.

Was that photo taken somewhere at Yosemite? I was just there in May, and I have a pic that looks almost exactly like that one. Enjoy the vacation!

Sorry for the delay in the comments everybody, I've been waiting to put up some pictures and commentary on my trip, which can be found here: http://stevetodd.typepad.com/philmont_2008 , I'm not done posting pictures yet but I've got something to read at least.
No doubt climbing the Tooth was the hardest! I drank a ton of fluids and did not get dehydrated, but did experience some nausea/headaches as a result of the altitude.
The picture I posted back in July was actually NH, now I've got some NM pictures.
